# Exterior Polish vs. Ceramic Coating — Which One Does Your Car Need?

Two of the most impactful things you can do for your car's paint are polishing and ceramic coating. They're often confused or lumped together, but they serve very different purposes. Here's the breakdown.

## Exterior Polish — Correcting the Paint

Polishing is a corrective process. It uses machine polishers and abrasive compounds to remove:

- Swirl marks (caused by improper washing technique or automatic car washes)
- Light scratches in the clear coat
- Water spots
- Oxidation (the dull, chalky appearance on older paint)
- Light etching from bird droppings or tree sap

The result is paint that looks dramatically cleaner, deeper, and glossier. Think of it as resetting your paint to as-new condition.

**Our Exterior Polish service** is a multi-stage machine polish performed by a trained technician. We assess your paint first, then use the right combination of compounds and pads to achieve the best result without removing unnecessary clear coat.

### When You Need Polishing

- Your paint looks hazy, swirled, or dull
- You notice fine scratches in bright light
- The car is 3+ years old and has never been polished
- You're preparing for a ceramic coating application

## Ceramic Coating — Protecting the Paint

Ceramic coating doesn't fix paint problems — it preserves paint that's already in good condition. A coating bonds to the clear coat and creates a hard, hydrophobic layer that:

- Repels water and dirt
- Resists UV fading
- Protects against light chemical damage
- Makes the car easier to wash and maintain

**Our Ceramic Coating tiers** (2-year, 5-year, and 10-year) include a pre-coating decontamination, but the coating won't "fix" existing swirl marks or oxidation — it will lock them in.

### When You Need Ceramic Coating

- Your paint is in good or like-new condition
- You want long-term protection without frequent waxing
- Your vehicle is newer or high-value
- You've just had a polish or paint correction done

## Do You Need Both?

If your paint has swirl marks or dullness AND you want long-term protection, yes — polish first, coat second. This is our most comprehensive exterior treatment and produces show-quality results.

If your paint is already in great shape, coating alone is sufficient.

If your paint is visibly damaged (deep scratches, chips, clear coat failure), neither service will fully fix it — that requires paint correction or bodywork.
